The mounted unit is headed by Commander Jonathan "Tex" Langley. It functions to enhance operations of Sheriff’s office by offering skills like search, crowd control and a high level of security to local events, often with crowds in excess of 80,000 people.

The mounted unit members are a vital part of the Sheriff's office. There are around 17 mounted reserve deputies, as well as, several very important support personnel in the unit, all of whom volunteer their time. The volunteer members provide their own horse, trailer and equipment. Several of the mounted unit members are regular full time Sheriff's deputies who volunteer their time to serve the public.
