The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Mounted Unit, organized in 2002 by then Lt. Jimmy Harris, is a volunteer organization now headed by Commander Jonathan Langley. The members of the Mounted Unit are regular or reserve deputies who give their time to assist the Sheriff in providing security and conducting searches in DeKalb County and Northeast Alabama. The Mounted Unit has participated in numerous search, rescue, and apprehend operations, and has provides security at Talladega Speedway and other venues.
