Project Life Saver

Project Lifesaver® was started in DeKalb County by the Sheriff's Office in 2010 to help the parents of individuals with any type of mental disorder and to give caregivers of victims of Alzheimer’s a sense of security. It is a free service for the citizens of DeKalb County for seniors or anyone who suffers from Alzheimer’s or related forms of Mental Dysfunction Disorders, Downs Syndrome, Autism, Developmental Disorders, or anyone that might have a tendency to wander away from home.

Project Lifesaver® is a radio transmission system designed to assist law enforcement and rescue agencies in locating lost or missing persons diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, Autism, Dementia, or other disorders that may prohibit them from communicating personal information such as who they are and where they live. This program is designed for children and adults who have some type of health problem that might put them at risk of wandering away from home.

Program features:

  • People who are enrolled in the program wear a personalized wristband that emits a tracking signal on an individually assigned FM radio frequency.
  • After search and rescue teams are notified they respond to the area and begin searching with the mobile locater tracking system.
  • With this system, search times have been reduced from hours and days to just minutes.
  • The wristband is a one-ounce battery-operated radio wrist transmitter with a 30+ day battery life that emits an automatic tracking signal every second, 24 hours a day.
  • The signal is tracked on the ground or in the air over several miles.
  • Each wristband has its own unique radio frequency.
  • Project Lifesaver® has rescued over 1400 individuals and has a 100% success rate.

If you would like to enroll a loved one in Project Lifesaver® please contact Captain Brad Edmondson at 256-845-3801
