                            Update on Homicide of Female

Sheriff Jimmy Harris states as follows:

Sheriff Jimmy Harris reports Saturday around 3:00 pm the white Ford Ranger truck was located in the Tuckers Chapel Community on Cherokee County Road 47. After locating the vehicle Alabama State Troopers helicopter and St. Clair County correctional facilities tracking dogs was requested. Sheriff Jeff Shaver of Cherokee County and his deputies joined in on the search with myself, Deputies and Investigators. After an intense search by DPS helicopter, St. Clair County Tracking dogs, and both Counties Sheriff’s Office around 2:30 am this morning myself and Sheriff Shaver left approximately 5 Deputies each in the area. Around 9:00 am Sunday morning Cherokee County 911 received a call that Minor and Grinnell came to a residence on County Road 47 requesting water and transportation. The owner refused and was armed, he advised them to leave. As they left he noticed Minor and Grinnell entering an abandoned chicken house below his residence. Sheriff Shaver was in the area when the call came in. Sheriff Shaver contacted his deputies and DeKalb County deputies about the call. There was two chicken houses in the area. Sheriff Shaver stopped at the first one he came to and the deputies went to the second one. Grinnell walked out of the chicken house and Sheriff Shaver began talking to her. Grinnell told him she needed water and help. Sheriff Shaver continued to talk to Minor but Minor would not come any farther. As Sheriff Shaver continued to talk to Minor he was able to contact the Deputies that Minor was in the chicken house. When DeKalb and Cherokee County Deputies pulled up Minor began to run though the chicken house. As Minor ran out the back of the chicken house DeKalb and Cherokee Deputies was able to tackle Minor. They walked him back though the chicken house and took him into custody. DeKalb County Deputies took Grinnell into custody and transported her to DeKalb Regional Medical Center where she was treated for facial injuries and released from the hospital. DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office were able to question Minor and Grinnell. Pending the autopsy report the District Attorney advises to charge Minor with first degree assault and Kidnapping 1st until the cause of death can be determined. Grinnell is not being charged at this time, she appears to be a victim in this situation.

Sheriff Harris states “I would like to especially thank Sheriff Shaver for being with us all night and being at the right place the next morning. I would also like to thank Micah Little with Alabama State Troopers Aviation Unit, St. Clair County Correctional tracking dogs and especially all the deputies from Cherokee and DeKalb that stayed out and up with us all night until the arrest was made.”
