Two Arrested on Different Charges
Sheriff Jimmy Harris states as follows:
On August 6th, DeKalb County Deputies received a call about a suspicious male subject around a vehicle on the roadside of Alabama Highway 68 near County Road 1922. When Deputies arrived they found Kenneth Ray Copeland, 34 of Crossville in possession of the vehicle. Deputies ran the VIN number of the vehicle and determined the vehicle was reported stolen earlier that day. During a search of the vehicle methamphetamine was found along with a small amount of drug paraphernalia. Copeland was arrested and charged with Receiving Stolen Property 1st, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance. Sheriff Harris says “Thanks to the concerned citizens for calling in suspicious activity, we were able to recover the stolen vehicle and catch Copeland.”
On an unrelated note: On the same date, Geraldine Police Department noticed a suspicious vehicle at the Shell station in Geraldine. When Geraldine Police Officers made contact with the two individuals, the male subject Heath Wendell Evans, 45 of Crossville appeared to be intoxicated. After talking to the driver and Evans, Evans was arrested and was found in possession of Heroin and drug paraphernalia on his person. At which time a Fyffe Police Officer tested the drugs and confirmed that it was Heroin. This case was then turned over to the DeKalb County Drug Task Force. Evans was transported to the DeKalb County Detention Center and charged with 2 counts of Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Public Intoxication, and Unlawful Possession of Prohibited Beverage. Sheriff Harris says “Geraldine Police Officers did a great job on noticing the suspicious vehicle and taking appropriate action and thanks to the Fyffe Police for their help in making this arrest.”
