Drug Arrest/ Deputy Involved in Wreck
Sheriff Jimmy Harris states as follows:
On the date of June 9th K-9 Deputy Akins observed a vehicle weaving on County Road 479 in Crossville, the Deputy conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. Once the Deputy was at the vehicle he asked the driver if he had anything illegal inside the vehicle or on his person. Shane Curtis Walker, 26 of Albertville was found with a baggie of methamphetamine on his person, at which time the DeKalb County Drug and Major Crimes Unit was contacted. Walker was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. There was a juvenile in the vehicle at that time and was released to the parents. Sheriff Harris says “Deputy Akins did a good job on being observant.” At about 11pm last night June 11th Deputy Fugatt radioed to dispatch that he was involved in a head on car accident. Deputy Fugatt was traveling down Alabama Highway 68, when another vehicle was passing a truck and hit Deputy Fugatt head on then spun around and hit another vehicle. Three vehicles were involved. The drivers of the other two vehicles were ok but Deputy Fugatt was transported to the DeKalb Regional Hospital where he was treated and released. Sheriff Harris says “It is always scary to get a phone call late at night about one of our Deputies being in an accident. We are just so glad that everyone walked away from the accident and is doing ok.”
