Henagar Theft Arrest

Sheriff Jimmy Harris states as follows:

Sheriff Jimmy Harris reports the arrest of Kaleb Austin Hamby, 19 of Sylvania on charges stemming from a burglary at a Sylvania residence and a theft at the Henagar Wonder Wash. Henagar Police took a report of extensive damage and a missing money terminal at the Wonder Wash on Alabama Highway 40 in Henagar. The theft and damage apparently occurred after 11:00pm Friday night and was discovered early Saturday morning by an off duty police officer. Damage to the property was listed at $3000.00 and the missing money terminal was valued at $10,000. The terminal was located Sunday by Henagar Police in a remote area in Henagar. DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office Investigators followed leads and began to develop information that led them to a burglary committed in the Sylvania area which was connected to the Henagar theft. The arrest of Hamby for the burglary and theft is the first step in what appears to be a larger case. Additional arrests are expected soon in this case as information continues to develop. Hamby is charged with Burglary 3rd, Theft of Property 1st, Criminal Mischief 1st, Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance 2 counts, and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Hamby remains in the DeKalb County Detention Center on bonds totaling $48,000.

Harris states “I’m glad to see these cases come together so quickly. Our officers and the Henagar Police Department worked this case and quickly got results. Sylvania Officers assisted in this case also. We all get better results when we work together. I’m glad we are making headway in these thefts in the Northern area of the County. We have several cases working on thefts County wide and we hope to make more arrests soon. Once again we see the connection between drugs and property crimes. We were able to recover most of the stolen items from the burglary but the car wash had serious damage which will have to be repaired. We are going to continue these investigations until everyone responsible is held accountable.”
