From the Office of DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden: FORT PAYNE, Ala. - On November 12, 2023 the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office was made aware of a scam involving a male claiming to be an employee of the DeKalb County Detention Center, calling families of inmates. During these calls, the scammer will advise the family of a bond amount and will ask them to pay, once payment is made, they would receive a barcode as a receipt and a notification that the inmate has made bond and will be released. The scammer also attempted to arrange an in-person meeting with the family. DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden said of the incident: "Our corrections officers do not make calls or arrangements for inmates' bonds to be paid, also never give out personal information about yourself or a family member over the phone." "God Bless!" Concluded Sheriff Welden.
