17 charged with drug related offenses during the months of February and March
FORT PAYNE, Ala. - During the months of February and March, 17 individuals were charged with drug related offense. We would like to thank the DeKalb County Sheriff's Deputies, Drugs and Major Crimes Unit and K-9 Unit, Alabama Pardons and Paroles and Fort Payne, Collinsville and Henagar PDs who never hesitate to assist us whenever needed. We are forever grateful for your dedication and teamwork, because without all of you, this would not be possible.
On Monday, February 16th, a DeKalb County Deputy and a Drugs and Major Crimes Unit stopped a vehicle on County Road 52 for speeding. Upon making contact with the driver, Deputies could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The driver was identified as Cason Jordan Jackson (19 of Pisgah). Due to the odor, Deputies searched the vehicle and found marijuana, THC gummies and a firearm in the vehicle. Jackson was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

On Tuesday, February 17th, Deputies stopped a vehicle on County Road 56 and County Road 43 for no tag. Upon making contact, the driver was identified as Christopher Todd Adkins (43 of Fyffe) and the passenger as Rodney Ray Gilbert (62 of Grove Oak). During the stop, Deputies found a bag containing a crystal-like substance in the floorboard. The Drug and Major Crimes Unit was called and responded. Adkins and Gilbert were both charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance.

On Thursday, February 19th, Deputies stopped a vehicle on County Road 400 and Hwy 227. The driver was identified as Bradley Keith Bell (56 of Fort Payne). During the stop, a DeKalb County K-9 and Major Crimes Unit pulled up to assist, and the K-9 was deployed and alerted. Deputies found a large amount of methamphetamine in the vehicle. Bell was charged with Trafficking and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

On Friday, February 20th, DeKalb County Major Crimes Unit served a Search Warrant on County Road 258 at the residence of Charles Avery Rush Jr (59 of Fort Payne). During the search, methamphetamine, marijuana, pills, firearms and paraphernalia were found. Rush was charged with Distribution (x2), Poss w/Intent, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 1st, Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance (x3), Tampering with Evidence, Certain Persons Forbidden, Resisting Arrest and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

On Tuesday, March 3rd, Henagar Police stopped a vehicle on AL Hwy 75 for failure to stop for a school bus. The driver was identified as Jeremy Don Williams (47 of Scottsboro) and the passenger as Joseph Ryan West (40 of Higdon). During the stop the Officer could smell an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The Officer searched the vehicle and found methamphetamine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and an open container of alcohol. The Drug and Major Crimes Unit was contacted and responded. West was arrested on outstanding warrants. Williams was charged with Poss w/Intent, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

On Thursday, March 12th, Deputies were dispatched to a possible overdose on County Road 9. Deputies made contact with the owner Mathew Boyce Pointer (45 of Crossville). While speaking with him they could see illegal narcotics in plain view. The Drugs and Major Crimes Unit was called and responded. After a search of the property, Pointer was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance (x3), Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

On Friday, March 13th, a Deputy was traveling on County Road 28 when he came across a vehicle with a trailer sitting in the roadway. Upon stopping, the Deputy made contact with the driver Matthew Barnett (41 of Crossville). While speaking with Barnett the Deputy could see in plain view open alcohol and drug paraphernalia. After a search of the vehicle, Deputies found multiple types of pills, methamphetamine, alcohol and drug paraphernalia. The Drugs and Major Crimes Unit was contacted and responded. Barnett was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance (x3), Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Open Container.

On Tuesday, March 17th, DeKalb County Drugs and Major Crimes Unit along with Fort Payne Police attempted to stop a truck on US Hwy 11 knowing that the driver had outstanding felony warrants. Jason Lynn Souder (53 of Fort Payne) fled, leading Law Enforcement on a chase to County Road 954 where Souder jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot. After a short foot pursuit, Law Enforcement was able to get Souder in custody. Agents found methamphetamine, morphine, a stolen firearm and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. Souder was charged with Attempt to Elude, Poss. w/Intent, Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Certain Persons Forbidden to Possess Firearm, Possession of Stolen Property RSP 2nd, Assault, Reckless Endangerment and Criminal Mischief along with UTCs.

On Wednesday, March 18th, Alabama Pardons and Parole Officers went to a residence on County Road 26 to do a home inspection on Jeremy Lamar Simmons (48 of Sardis City). Upon arrival Officers made contact with Simmons and Adam Ray McClendon (42 of Horton) in the front yard. Officers found both suspects to be in possession of methamphetamine. The Drugs and Major Crimes Unit was called and responded. Simmons and McClendon were both charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance.

On Saturday, March 21st, Deputies stopped a vehicle on HWY 176 and County Road 58 due to an expired tag. During the stop, the driver was identified as Scotty Alexander Shaver (40 of Fort Payne). Shaver was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. The Drugs and Major Crimes Unit was contacted and responded. Shaver was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

On Sunday, March 22nd, Officers received a call of a reckless driver around County Road 51 and County Road 52. Collinsville Officers found a vehicle sitting in the middle of the road at 51 and 52 with a male suspect passed out behind the wheel. The driver was identified as Jamie Scott Craton (43 of Fort Payne). While speaking with him Officers could see in plain view a bag of synthetic marijuana. The Drugs and Major Crimes Unit was contacted and responded. Craton was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Again, on Sunday, Henagar Officers received a call about an unwanted guest on Burton Rd in Henagar. When Officers arrived on scene one male subject ran with the other two being identified as Damon Patrick Ford (47 of Henagar) and Joe Ray Walker (40 of Henagar). During a search of the vehicle, clonazepam pills and drug paraphernalia were found. The Drugs and Major Crimes Unit was contacted and responded. Ford and Walker were both charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

On Tuesday, March 24th, a Collinsville Officer stopped a vehicle on HWY 68 for a switched tag. The driver was identified as Semone Alexandria Escamilla (40 of Rainsville). She had a suspended license and also had outstanding warrants. During a search, Officers found methamphetamine, suboxone and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. While speaking with Escamilla she told Officers she had more methamphetamine on her person. The Drugs and Major Crimes Unit was contacted and responded. Escamilla was charged with Poss. w/Intent, Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and having active warrants.
