Domestic Dispute Results in One Injured and One died

Sheriff Jimmy Harris states as follows:

Sheriff Jimmy Harris reports that around 11 pm Saturday night the DeKalb County E911 received a call about a shooting that took place near the Shiloh Community Church on County Road 155 Higdon in DeKalb County. When deputies, Fort Payne Police, Ider Police, DeKalb County Drug Task Force and Jackson County deputies arrived on the scene they found Cody Lee Wade, 40 of Higdon in possession of a gun.

Wade’s mother told deputies that the incident started Saturday night when Wade and a female friend got into a domestic dispute.

The female friend called Barry White and William Gilreath to give her a ride. When White and Gilreath arrived, Wade attempted to get into the vehicle. When Wade was unable to get in the vehicle White drove off and Wade began to shoot at them.

White and Gilreath were both shot and they ran their vehicle off into a ditch near the Church.

Barry White, 45 of Walker County Georgia died on the scene and William Gilreath of

Jackson County, condition is unknown at this time.

Wade was arrested, transported to DeKalb County Detention Center and charged with murder.

Sheriff Harris says “Thanks to the Ider Police, Fort Payne Police, Jackson County Deputies DeKalb County Drug Task Force and our Deputies for their quick response in this case. This is an unfortunate situation and our thoughts and prayers go out to these families.”
