Corrections Officer Arrested
Sheriff Jimmy Harris states as follows:
Sheriff Jimmy Harris reports that on September 25, 2013, a joint investigation was commenced by the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (I.C.E.), Office of Professional Responsibility and the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office concerning a complaint received by I.C.E. from a detainee stating that $325.00 in cash was missing from his property after being booked into the DeKalb County Detention Center. As a result of the joint investigation, John Weston Culpepper, 28 of Dawson, AL was arrested on November 20, 2013 charged with Theft of Property 3rd degree. Culpepper was a Corrections Officer at the DeKalb County Detention Center at the time of the incident and the arrest. Culpepper was terminated at that time. Sheriff Jimmy Harris said, “Law Enforcement Officers and Correction Officers hold the public’s trust and even though sometimes it is tough to do, we must be held to the standards we enforce.”
Culpepper was booked into the DeKalb County Detention Center with a $1,500.00 Bond.
