Pistol Permit Online Application

MEDIA RELEASE

For Immediate Release

                                                   Pistol Permit Online Application

Chief Deputy Michael Edmondson would like to announce that beginning on March 1, 2018, citizens in DeKalb County will be able to apply for pistol permits online. The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office is implementing a new program that will allow citizens to apply for a new permit or renew a permit online. This program will be accessible via a link on the Sheriff’s Office website at www.dekalbcountysheriff.org.  To begin with, everyone utilizing this online program will have to choose the option that states “new pistol permit application.” Online permit applications will be processed Monday through Friday between the hours of 8am and 4pm and then mailed to the address given on the application. All correspondence regarding the status of the application, including the approval of the application will be sent via the email address provided on the application. In addition to the permit fee, the company that provides the online system charges a convenience fee and a credit card processing fee. These fees are paid directly to the company and are not collected by the Sheriff’s Office. Retired military veterans and retired law enforcement officers will still need to come to the office with their documentation to apply for their permits.

Sheriff Jimmy Harris states “The Sheriff’s Office is offering this online service as a convenience to our citizens that may have had a difficult time getting to our office due to distance or work. As always, the sheriff’s office will continue to open at the same times for anyone who wishes to come to the office to get their permit.”
