| 02/12/2020 Multiple Drug Arrests made at the end January, including one for Heroin |

The Narcotics & Interdiction Unit has made multiple arrests and assisted local departments with several drug cases over the last couple of weeks, including one involving heroin. On Tuesday, January 21st Henagar Police Officers went to a residence to serve a warrant. While at the residence, they made contact with a Joshua Dakota Whitmire (22 of Rainsville). Whitmire was found to have active warrants. Syringes and heroin were discovered in the suspect's vehicle. The Narcotics Unit was then contacted and assisted with the case. Whitmire was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
On the same day, DeKalb County Deputies and Narcotics Agents conducted a traffic stop on County Road 121. During the stop, a search of the vehicle was conducted and methamphetamine as well as drug paraphernalia was discovered. April Herndon (44 of Pisgah) was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Later on the 21st, Narcotics Agents with the assistance of DeKalb County Deputies, went to a residence on County Road 570 near Sylvania after complaints of drug activity. After a search of the residence, marijuana was found. Michael Clark (64 of Rainsville) was arrested for Possession of Marijuana 1st Degree and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Later in the night, Interdiction and Narcotics Agents as well as DeKalb County Deputies, conducted a traffic stop in the Powell area. During the stop, a search of the vehicle was conducted, resulting in a seizure of synthetic marijuana and assorted drug paraphernalia. Priscilla Spradling (37 of Cedar Bluff) was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
On the same night, Narcotics Agents conducted a traffic stop on County Road 51. During the stop, agents observed the driver of the vehicle toss an item. Agents recovered the item, which was identified as a bag of methamphetamine. Eric Gant (22 of Fort Payne) was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Later on, agents and deputies went to County Road 354 in the Collinsville area to serve a warrant on Jesus Lopez Morales (49 of Collinsville) for Trafficking in Marijuana. While there, agents learned that Morales had re-entered the United States illegally after being deported for his previous crimes. Morales was also found to be in possession of a firearm. He was arrested on the existing warrant for Trafficking in Marijuana and also charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
On Sunday, January 26th, after a pursuit occurred, agents were called to assist on the scene due to arresting officers finding methamphetamine and marijuana. Leah Wendy Wilbanks (42 of Fort Payne) had been taken into custody as a result of the pursuit. She was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Marijuana 2nd Degree, and Attempting to Elude.
On Tuesday, January 28th, Alabama State Troopers were conducting a driver's license checkpoint, when Brian Maloy (49 of Altoona, Al.) was checked. It was found that he had an outstanding warrant with Etowah County. During his arrest, Maloy was found to be in possession of marijuana and methamphetamine. He received additional charges with DeKalb County of Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia after Narcotics Agents were called to assist with the case.
Also on the 28th, Deputies stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. During the stop a K-9 was deployed. After a positive indication, a search of the vehicle revealed marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Tounya Williams (56 of Albertville) was arrested and charged with Marijuana 1st Degree and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Later on the same day, the Narcotics unit conducted a search warrant on County Road 610. During the search, methamphetamine and marijuana was discovered. Lonnie Douglas Tinker (58 of Fort Payne) and Sarah Catherine English (35 of Fort Payne) were arrested at the residence. Both were charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
On Thursday, January 30th, Agents were on I-59 when a Be-On-the-Lookout (BOLO) was received regarding a motorcycle from outside agencies. The motorcycle passed agents who attempted to conduct a traffic stop, resulting in a pursuit that started at the 222 mile marker in Fort Payne and ended on US Highway 11 in Dade County. Timothy Kerr (24 of Boaz) wrecked the motorcycle and emergency medical services was called. Kerr was transported to Erlanger Medical Center for treatment of his injuries caused by the wreck.
On same day, the Narcotics Unit was contacted by the Ider Police Department. Marijuana and Suboxone was located within a vehicle that had been stopped. Carl Standifer (45 of Gadsden) was arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Marijuana 2nd Degree.
On Saturday, February 1st, Interdiction Agents made a traffic stop on Highway 75. After a search of the vehicle, Methamphetamine was found. Ashley Pittman (28 of Crossville) was arrested for Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. She later received a charge of Promoting Prison Contraband after trying to get methamphetamine into the jail.
On the same day, a traffic stop was conducted by DeKalb County Deputies on County Road 23 near the Whiton Community. During the stop, deputies searched the vehicle, finding drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine. Manuel Diaz (34 of Boaz) was arrested and Charged with Possession of Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
On February 2nd, DeKalb Co. Deputies stopped a vehicle in Rainsville. After a search of the vehicle, synthetic marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found. Taylor Flanagan (18 of Fackler, Al.) and Enrique Olivas (18 of Rainsville) were both arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Olivas was charged with Promoting Prison Contraband 2nd Degree after spice was found when he was being booked into the jail.
DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden said: "We're glad to get these narcotics off the streets and to assist our local departments in their efforts to make our county safer. Our agents fill the vital role of assisting our local departments with filing the appropriate charges and identifying the type of narcotics located." "It's also disturbing that we gradually are finding more and more heroin. This drug is highly addictive and leads to many overdose deaths across the country.
