Phone Scam/Warrants

Sheriff Jimmy Harris states as follows:

Sheriff Jimmy Harris reports an on-going scam involving the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office and the court system. People are receiving calls from individuals claiming to be representatives of the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office. The names used so far are Investigator Williams and Stone. The caller begins the scam by telling the person that they are in contempt for failing to comply with a subpoena and there are warrants pending for their arrest. The caller will then give the person an amount of money which can be paid by Postal money order or Green dot Visa to a pre-determined location. If the caller receives this money by a dead line, the warrants are to be canceled and the person does not have to go to court. This scam is used often but is widespread in DeKalb County now. The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office never solicits money for any such matter. You should never send money to anyone that you do not initiate contact with. Warrants are never satisfied by cash transactions. Warrants are either served or recalled. If you are contacted about this scam get all the information you can and contact law enforcement for a report. These individuals do not work for the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office and no response is needed to these calls. Contact the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office if you receive a call.
