Man Arrested on Warrants
Sheriff Jimmy Harris states as follows:
Sheriff Jimmy Harris reports the arrest of a DeKalb County man on warrants from Cherokee County related to a home invasion where two victims were stabbed. Officers were looking for Jeremy Don Williams, 34 of Fort Payne near Henagar when he was spotted in a vehicle by a Drug Task Force agent. Williams fled the scene and patrol officers pursued him a short distance on County Road 116 until he slid into a ditch at the intersection of 116 and County Road 85. Williams was taken into custody after a brief scuffle and one officer was kicked. Williams was taken to the DeKalb County Detention Center where he was booked in on charges of attempting to Elude and Resisting Arrest. Williams was transferred to the Cherokee County Detention Center on charges of Burglary 1st and Assault 2nd for the incident there. Harris states “we are glad to get this person for Cherokee County. The incident he was involved in over there was very violent and he had threatened suicide before he would go back to jail. Our officers did a good job of ending this chase quickly and safely. Williams was tased to prevent further injuries to himself and the officers. We are glad to bring this man in before anyone else got hurt.”
