From the Office of DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden:
FORT PAYNE, Ala. - After several days of intensive investigation, multiple false leads, and long hours, The DeKalb County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that Gary Jody Childers was taken into custody in Floyd County Georgia at approximately 9:15pm central time. Childers faces charges in DeKalb County for Attempted Murder and Certain Persons Forbidden to Possess a Firearm, as well as federal charges. Childers will remain in custody in Floyd County Georgia until he is extradited to DeKalb County Alabama. We would like to thank the following agencies for their assistance in the manhunt as well as the investigation: Floyd County Police Department, Marshall County Sheriff's Office, Etowah County Sheriff's Office, Jackson County Sheriff's Office, Gadsden Police Department, JSU Center for Applied Forensics, Powell Police Department, Sylvania Police Department, Rainsville Police Department, Fort Payne Police Department, Collinsville Police Department, The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, The Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms and Explosives Agency (ATF), The United States Marshal Service and the United States Pardons and Paroles.
