| 01/30/2026 Forgery Operation Shut Down in Fort Payne |

FORT PAYNE, Ala. - Recently, the DeKalb County Drugs and Major Crimes Unit has been investigating reports of a forgery operation that was being conducted out of a residence on Mims Street in Fort Payne. On Thursday, January 29th, Agents conducted a traffic stop in relation to this case at IGA in Fort Payne. During the traffic stop, the main suspect in the forgery operation was identified as Javier Ferrer-Huerta (58 of Veracruz, Mexico) and evidence was gathered from his vehicle.
Later that evening on the 29th, a search warrant was conducted at the subject's residence on Mims Street. During the search warrant, multiple false information documents, materials used for the production of false identification documents, three firearms, and a large amount of US currency was seized. Huerta was charged with Trafficking in Stolen Identities, and the Department of Homeland Security was also notified due to him being in the country illegally. DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden said of the incident: "Stealing someone's identity is a serious crime that causes real and lasting harm to victims. It is a crime that steals a person's security, their finances and their peace of mind. We remain committed to protecting our community and holding these offenders responsible." "God Bless!"
